The French Cow

The French Cow was created in 2015 because when I moved to Detroit, I could not find the type of food that I was used to eating while growing up in France. I recognized that Detroit had a need for a crepes shop when, after tasting a few different local restaurants, my children, then 3 and 5 years old, turned to me and said, “You should make crepes, Mom. Yours are better!” I thought for a second and I replied,” You know what?I really should.” Thus, The French Cow was born. 

My mother and I started doing one pop-up a month as I still worked a full time job. After a couple of months, word of mouth spread quickly and I found myself doing two or three a month. With more and more demand for crepes, I decided to quit my job so that I could dedicate myself full time and focus on growing The French Cow. While Eastern Market is our main venue, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra has also hosted us in their professional kitchen for two years and we offer crepes at some of their events. The French Cow grew to cater private parties, weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, graduation parties, and other special events.

We are so very excited to be a part of the Hatch competition this year. We can’t wait to have a brick and mortar to call home, because as a portable business, we are not able to create the best ambiance around our food. We would also like to expand our menu to more crepes, cheeses, ice creams, and other French cuisine. Having a store would allow us to move from coolers and trucks to a kitchen and dining area where people could enjoy the delicious food I love in an authentically French environment. It will be lovely also to settle down in a neighborhood and make it OUR neighborhood. 

People should vote for The French Cow for three reasons:

  1. We Are Authentique: We are making crepes and other brasserie type food that are made the way my people used to make it. It is made fresh and our crepes taste the way they should.
  2. Our Food is Delicieux:  We have had people driving from Windsor, New York and Chicago and make a trip to Detroit to come and taste our delicious crepes. While this is a huge compliment, it also shows that the way our crepes taste is nothing similar to other crepe shops around. We work with local farmers to ensure our ingredients are fresh, seasonal and cared for. 
  3. The French Experience: If you have been looking for a real French experience outside of Paris, look no longer! WE ARE IT. We have the look, the taste, the scent, the music and ambiance and of course, the accent. We cannot wait for you to come in and feel like you are in Paris, without having to take a flight.
