Derek Edwards is a Senior Vice President with Invest Detroit, a 501(c)(3) organization and certified Community Development Financial Institution which manages $140 million in loan funds and New Markets Tax Credit allocations used for economic development.
Mr. Edwards focuses on the Urban Retail Loan Fund, designed to provide financial support to neighborhood retail businesses in targeted areas of the Greater Downtown, and the Invest Detroit Small Business Fund, which is designed to provide financial support to second stage businesses seeking to expand.
With over 20 years of commercial banking and underwriting experience, he is engaged in the lending activities of the family of funds managed by Invest Detroit. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Sr. Business Banker at Huntington Bank where he managed a lending portfolio of more than $23 million and was responsible for full portfolio management.
In addition to assisting with traditional bank financing, Mr. Edwards helped start-up and expanding businesses through his experience with U.S. Small Business Administration loan programs and was awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Financial Services Partner of the Year honor in 2010.
