What does Toma translate to? Toma can mean two things: to give or to drink. Toma is a universal word used throughout Latin America. At Toma Detroit our philosophy is fresh, locally sourced, simple yet sophisticated cocktails and dishes from Latin America. Most are familiar with the idea of farm to table, and at TOMA we want to create the concept of plant to bottle. We will have a tasting room with our focus on Tequila & Mezcal as well as educating our guests about regional distillation methods and the different styles of Agave. There will be an exclusive selection of Tequilas and Mezcal to chose from, each with a different story that the TOMA family will be happy to share with you. We will pair the spirit of your choice with some delicious Latino food that’s sure to enhance your palate. Our exciting and innovative menu, paired with an atmosphere of soft rock Latino music, is sure to maximize your experience. At TOMA Detroit, we will present a new way to “sip and mingle.” Our specialized craft cocktails are made with fresh and locally sourced citrus, herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Our menu was created by Eddie Vargas, who has over 19 years of experience in the restaurant industry. The team consist of four individuals, raised in southwest Detroit, and all graduates of Western International High School and now local business owners. We eat, live, and love in this city and chose to launch our establishment close to our roots. Corktown is the oldest neighborhood in Detroit and we plan to bring some Southwest Detroit Flavor into an area that currently does not have a restaurant/bar specializing in Latin American fare. Our menu will be changing seasonally, and we will constantly use fresh ingredients as we fuse different parts of Latin Cuisine. We will use our diverse backgrounds to offer exciting new twists on our families’ recipes. These dishes will include specialty tacos and Latin American dishes ranging from plantains, yuca, lengua, cactus, and more. By offering a small seasonal menu that is approachable for everyone, along with customer service that will make you feel like family, we hope to present a dining experience that will be enjoyed by everyone who walks through our doors. TOMA!
