OVERVIEW
What do you get when you combine spirit, heart, integrity, and the most delicious baked goods you’ve ever had? Little Dove Bakeshop of course!
Little Dove Bakeshop is a custom cakery offering everything from petite French macaroons to eight tiered wedding cakes. What started out of a kitchen in Ferndale has now exploded with regular clients such as MOCAD, Wayne State University, The Parade Company, The DMC and countless other wonderful places in the metro area and the US! The wonderful people and businesses of Detroit have already embraced little Dove Bakeshop. So, now that it’s time to expand, Detroit is the only place I would ever consider to make our nest and get to work.
Little Dove Bakeshop will be a glowing example of Detroit and what sets us apart from other cities. Since the beginning Little Dove has developed a business model we call profit with a purpose. Profit with a purpose is a commitment that each month a portion of the profits from all sales, big and small, will go to a different designated monthly “cause”. The decided cause has been anything from paying for prescription medication for an uninsured family to helping the local bookstore make the rent. Thus far Little Dove Bakeshop has purchased a pair of rain barrels for two public schools, helped Georgia Street Community Center purchase a new furnace, purchased a plane ticket for a neighbor’s ill relative to come from Ethiopia, furbished fully stocked backpacks for five local classrooms… and the list goes on.

THE TEAM
Bethany Young – Owner
Bethany Young has been baking since she could walk. Spending weekends with her old fashioned Southern grandmother she learned no meal was complete without a dessert or two or five. She never intended to become a baker. In fact, she has spent most of her life studying science and medicine, landing prestigious jobs at Columbia University and the National Institute of Health. Her career and lifelong desire to “give back” allowed Bethany the chance to travel the world doing aid work, experiencing different cultures, ideals, and, excitedly, cuisine! Throughout her tireless education there were always two constants in Bethany’s life- baking and retail. While in school, Bethany, to pay her rent and support her family, worked at and managed some of the world’s finest retailers such as Gucci, Scoop NYC, and Louis Boston. This work has given her the inside knowledge it takes to run a successful retail business in even the most competitive of industries.
Baking, on the other hand, has always been something she’s done out of pure love and joy. Bethany has always been the go-to-girl for friends and family for all of life’s special occasions. A recent illness and intensive surgery forced Bethany to take a break from her demanding life. During her long recovery to stave off boredom she looked to her dearest of friends, her Kitchenaid mixer. From there a new dream, a new idea, a new passion started to form. From that moment Little Dove Bakeshop was born.
Taurus Burns - Web Designer and Business Partner
Since graduating from the College for Creative Studies Fine Arts program in 2002, Taurus Burns has exhibited his paintings regularly throughout Metro Detroit. Taurus has been involved in several public art projects, including Tiger Town and Detroit Festival of the Arts “Street Painting” Exhibitions. He has completed numerous commissioned paintings, including a large mural at Caruso Caruso in Birmingham, and a painting representing Detroit in the 2008 Verizon Wireless How Sweet the Sound Competition. In Hour Detroit Magazine’s 2007 Best of Detroit issue, Taurus was listed as one of the “Best Local Artists to Collect”, and in 2010 RealDetroit Weekly listed Taurus Burns as the “Best Local Artist”.
In recent years, Taurus has curated and judged local exhibits such as the popular “The Detroit Frontier” and “Urban Edge” shows. Always looking to stretch his creative boundaries, Taurus recently illustrated a children’s chapter book titled “Kyle Jeffries, Pilgrim”. Taurus continues to develop his own blend of figurative narrative painting and urban realism while building on his highly sought after series of over 200 “cityscape” paintings inspired by the Metro Detroit urban landscape.

you guys are both amazing people & so glad i was able to try your vegan cupcake. cheers to you both.
I was sent to the Hatch Detroit site by a friend asking people to vote for someone she knee. I decided to learn more about each of the entrants first and I have to say, I am impressed with your company! I was so happy to read about how you give back to the community. As a teacher in Detroit, I am well aware that there are many families in need of everyday help. Thank you for offering to give back! And if you are ever looking for a worthy cause, I have a few students who would appreciate some basic school supplies, groceries, or paper products. I voted for you and will pass this on to my friends!
impressed that you were the only one I read that mentions giving back to Detroiters.
Yummy…can’t wait to try out some of these desserts! Best of luck to the both of you:)

Thank you all so much!!!
@Suzanne, We do a lot of backpacks stocked with all of your basic school supplies, plus things like underwear, socks, tooth brush, etc. I’ve never thought of doing something involving groceries, but I think that’s a great idea! During the holiday season I really want to give back even more, maybe two or three causes per month. If you get this, email me at bethany@littledovebakeshop so we can figure something out! xoxo
@Christina- I recall you guys have some very cute furry friends. Just wanted you to know we also do “pup”cakes! xo
Everything I’ve tasted out of The Little Dove Bake Shop h as been incredible, She uses the freshest ingredients, purchased locally. She can accommodate special diets (gluten free, vegan, and various allergies)keeping the products moist and delicious. Her philosophy is to give back to the community. She can help revitalize Detroit “one cupcake at a time” Vote DAILY for LDB PLEASE!

I haven’t tasted the cupcakes yet, but if they are as incredible as the the owners, I am sure I will love them. I can’t wait to check them out!
You just make sense- All the best to you both!
hope you guys win. well your already winners. winners are people with great spirit and the principal of giving back to the community. way to go.keep up the good work.
Looks like you’re into giving to very good causes, and that’s soooooo essential nowadays.
With the many glaring needs, just in our own community, just with our neighbors…it is clear that we all need to step-up and do our own little (or large) part. It looks like you at’Little Dove’intend to continue to do yours.
I also can’t wait to taste your goodies !!!
CONGRATULATIONS ON ALL YOUR SUCCESS!!!
Thank You all so much! I know we’re behind in the vote, but the quality of people who are supporting us makes such a difference. Knowing that DPS teachers, former line workers, social workers, The DPL, folks like Mark at Georgia Street Community Center, and even Aid workers overseas are in our corner really keeps us going. Win or lose, we’re going to keep giving back as much as we can! xoxo
i want to thank everyone who voted for Little Dove Bakeshop in the HatchDetroit Competition. Myself & Bethany Young really really appreciate all the time you allowed us. Even though i am not directly connected to the bakeshop i am honored to have helped them with their cause. Congrats to those who advanced, please contribute to make Detroit a better city and not for strictly capitalist gains. Thank you once again. we love you all.
