OVERVIEW

LIFT is proud to present Bubble Love, our concept for a new space in Midtown Detroit that combines a bubble tea café with our passion for designer toys and pop surreal art.  We are excited for the opportunity to become part of the creative energy that’s reshaping Detroit.

Bubble Love will complement the existing retail spaces in the Midtown neighborhood by providing an exciting new destination to shop and a place to hang out, study or work while sipping on tasty bubble teas and smoothies. Our space will have an open layout with a serving bar and customer seating area surrounded by designer toys, original art and apparel by Detroit Manufacturing.

Bubble tea’s popularity has exploded in Asia and has been spreading through the United States. Bubble Love will have a menu featuring several flavors and options including green tea, milk tea, smoothies, juice drinks and of course boba – balls of chewy tapioca that can be added to any drink.  We will also offer Japanese ramune sodas and Asian snack foods. Bubble tea cafes are popular in urban areas and near college campuses, making Midtown a perfect fit for our concept.

Our existing Royal Oak location called Lift Designer Toys & Gallery provides us with knowledge and experience in retail that will help us to launch a successful space in Midtown. We’re determined to continue exploring new concepts that enhance the local community.  The best part of being in retail has been getting to meet so many great customers and working with talented artists from the local community and beyond.

We believe strongly in giving back to the community and we look forward to making connections with non-profits and schools near our new neighborhood.  We have held fundraisers for local charities, the most recent being Mission:Munny, an art exhibit benefiting The Art Experience community art studio.  We have also worked with some great Detroit organizations including Better Detroit Youth Movement and provided mentorship for students from University Prep Academy high school.

THE TEAM

We believe the most important key to success in retail is excellence in customer service.

Kent Alverson – Owner

Kent Alverson is a Michigan native and the owner of Lift Designer Toys & Gallery in Royal Oak, MI.  Lift began as a part-time gig but has been his primary passion for the past two years.  He has been accused of being an entrepreneur since the age of four while turning several ideas into businesses during his formative years.  Kent recently received an MBA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  He has volunteered his time with several non-profits through the years including Camp Quality, Big Brothers Big Sisters and ASME.

Kimberly Sak Alverson – Owner

Kimberly Sak Alverson grew up in the metro Detroit area and has been an art educator for over 10 years.  She earned a BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and her MAT in Art Education from Wayne State University.  She has received awards and art grants and has shown in a variety of gallery shows both regionally and nationally.  Her work has been reviewed and written about in periodicals including the New Art Examiner.  Kim focuses on educational outreach and product selection at Lift. Art is her passion and she looks forward to sharing her enthusiasm in a new retail venue.

Jason Driscoll – Marketing/Graphic Design

Jason Driscoll is a Detroit area painter and illustrator. You may also know him by his pseudo name - Kill Taupe. With a penchant for creating cute and demented characters including slurpee chugging bears, swearing veggies and manic rabbits, Jason’s art contains high doses of sarcasm. His work can be found at galleries around the country as well as at local art fairs, shops and markets.
