OVERVIEW
What do you get when you combine the desire to build relationships and community, with the sensory experience of freshly roasted coffee? Anthology Coffee of course!
Anthology Coffee is a burgeoning coffee roaster built on relationships and community. We believe that investing in the communities we work in – both Detroit and in and around the coffee farms – creates a unique experience for everyone involved. At it’s core Anthology questions what coffee is and how it shapes our lives.
Our goal is to open a cafe/roastery which encompasses both the retail and wholesale operations of the business. It would be an open design that showcases the roasting, the coffee preparation, and allows for educational and special events. It will mostly house communal seating with the idea that coffee breaks down barriers, allowing for conversation.

THE TEAM
We plan to pay living wages to our staff, as well as provide benefits. Again built upon relationships the goal is to employ a family of employees who will help the business and Detroit grow. Anthology will also promote community events and programs as a way for staff and patrons to invest in Detroit
Josh Longsdorf – Owner/Principal
Josh Longsdorf is a food lover, coffee dreamer and father of two. He has a decade of coffee history from barista to buyer, roaster to trainer. He has worked in nearly every area of coffee. After his first child was born, he set out on a path to move back to Michigan and bring it the coffee he had come to love.
He is currently the green buyer and coffee roaster of Commonwealth in Birmingham, MI. He is responsible for the coffee budget, green buying and roasting. He also oversees the coffee education and training.
Annie Longsdorf – Owner/Principal
Annie Longsdorf is a mother of two with California roots. She moved to Michigan knowing that there was plenty of opportunity to create the kind of future she wanted for her family – of course it would require more effort, but she’s not one to shy from a challenge.
Quality and artisan foods – especially baked goods – are a big passion of Annie’s. She spent several years decorating cakes for an ice cream shop, making wedding cakes for friends and can always be found baking up a storm at home. She took a class in specialty chocolate making with a renowned pastry chef, learning the basics for several types of candy and chocolate preparation. It is very important to her that all ingredients are sourced locally and seasonally if possible, and of the highest quality; Annie is excited to bring her baking skills to Anthology Coffee by planning, creating, and sourcing the pastries they will offer.

Everyone needs access to good coffee
I don’t know anyone more passionate about coffee!
Josh & Annie would be a wonderful asset to this area bringing their love for coffee and community in opening Anthology. With coffee being the world second largest commodity your area would truly have an excellent opportunity to enjoy fine coffee that is responsibly produced from the planting to the roasting. Hoping they will be able to bring a treasure to this area.
Did they really just steal the “A” in their logo from Adobe Acrobat?
Monica, those are old bags we needed for a visual image. A friend threw it together for us before our logo work was done. He showed me the image that inspired the A and I assure you it wasn’t derived from Adobe. Regardless, we didn’t select that image, Hatch did. It’s no longer used by Anthology.
Delicious coffee!!
I got a sample of Anthology coffee last week. I am drinking some right now. It is some of the most delicious, aromatic coffee I’ve ever had. You guys rule!!
Josh and Annie are a true burst of fresh energy for the area. Do it!
Ps: That “A” was around long before Adobe Acrobat.
Very cool….
Blessings in this endeavor…
Make Michigan Coffee Respectable
Don’t you mean *more* respectable?:)
It gets me excited to think that we can heal Detroit with coffee. Look at Portland, Oregon as an example of thriving coffee businesses and create something greater for Detroit. Astro coffee has just started. Anthology is next in line. The next coffee place should start with the letter B. And I ain’t talking Biggby’s. I digress. Imagine coming down to Detroit and be thrilled to go have an amazing selection of coffee prior to exploring the city.

My niece Jill worked at Commonwealth in Birmingham with you and had nothing but good things to say. She’s now in Portland working in a coffee shop enjoying it. It would be great for you to accomplish this in Detroit.
