Neighborhood Grocery is bringing fresh food back to the neighborhoods with small footprint, full line grocery stores in Detroit, targeting underserved neighborhoods that lack access to fresh foods. Created by the community, for the community, Neighborhood Grocery envisions a more just and equitable food system, starting at the heart: in the neighborhoods where families live.
Neighborhood Grocery’s mission is to:
Provide good (healthy, fresh and nutritious) food options to underserved neighborhoods.
Offer at-will employment to community members with livable wages and opportunity for growth.
Provide community-focused investment and crowd-investment opportunities to build individual and group wealth within Detroit communities of color.
Magnify Detroit food system economic growth through the local money multiplier by sourcing locally and regionally produced and distributed products.
Neighborhood Grocery will offer exactly what customers would like to buy: culturally relevant groceries and delicious food, in a welcoming, superior customer service environment. Each location will have a small storefront offering fresh groceries, prepared foods, grab and go meals & snacks, and pantry staples, while also serving as a community gathering place. We’ll make learning about food and eating better fun and easy, by bringing a technological approach both to our internal business processes as well as customer outreach. By utilizing a strong social media strategy, we’ll bring young Detroiters into the conversation about food, helping to grow the food system in Detroit in more ways than one. Most of all, our business model is built for replication, meaning we will be able to operate in any neighborhood which is our intent: To build a business in a neighborhood (BUILD), grow this business (GROW), become successful and profitable (PROFIT), and start over in a new neighborhood (REPEAT).
We are competing in Hatch because we know every community in Detroit wants to see what Neighborhood Grocery intends to offer which is more than just groceries: home-grown businesses with a social mission. We ask for your vote because we believe we will help our neighborhoods to develop a strong foundation, starting with the food that we eat every day. If you miss having fresh groceries with a friendly face just around the corner, vote for Neighborhood Grocery and we’ll bring the freshness to you.
