Hatch Detroit Co-Founders Ted Balowski (L) and Nick Gorga (R)

We are Ted Balowski and Nick Gorga, and Hatch Detroit is our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  We are passionate about Detroit, and we want to give everyone a chance to play a part in the continued revitalization of the city.  We call it “Crowd Entrepreneurship”!  We founded Hatch Detroit on the premise that vibrant and diverse retail is the lifeblood of a thriving urban community.  Independent retail serves as a gateway to a broader goal of attracting and retaining residents in the city and region we call home.

We have no personal agenda and do not expect, and will not accept, any personal gain from this.  We simply want to provide opportunities to entrepreneurs that share our vision of neighborhood growth, community support, and development.

About Ted:

I’m the tall, good looking one.  I’m passionate about Detroit and passionate about entrepreneurs!  I’ve started several businesses in the last 10 years, including Ballgame Holdings, Ballgame Consulting, 4DetroitDudes.com, and ContractorKey, LLC.  I’m also an Account Executive with CareTech Solutions, a Michigan based healthcare IT company.  I’m very interested in helping other entrepreneurs, and shining a bright light on all the positive things going on in the City of Detroit.  When I’m not burning the midnight oil, I try to spend as much time as possible with family, friends, cold beers, and my golf clubs.

About Nick:

I’m the shorter and blonder of the duo.  I moved back home to Detroit after 7 years in Chicago in order to do my part to revitalize the city and the region I love.  During the day I am a lawyer at Honigman Miller, where I also serve as the hiring partner (trying to attract and retain talent in Michigan) and co-chair of the pro bono committee (trying to make sure all our lawyers give back to those most in need).  At night I relax by chugging coffee and spending five hours trying to figure out how to Hatch businesses.
